RDWdigital - The Future of On Demand Books and Print
RDW Digital is the digital printing division of Riley Dunn & Wilson Limited, the UK’s leading specialist bookbinders and conservators. The main business has been established for over 100 years and now employs nearly 90 specialist staff split between our book production factory in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and our new paper and book conservation centre in Falkirk, Stirlingshire.
RDW Digital have invested in state-of-the-art printing and binding equipment specially designed for high quality, short run and on-demand book production.
At RDW, we understand that all books are different and each title requires special attention. We are not in the business of mass-produced digitally printed books, rather we are focussed on providing a genuine and flexible short run alternative to traditional lithographic printing and binding techniques, but with plenty of finishing options.
Our customers
We provide a complete monochrome and colour short run book printing and binding service for trade and specialist publishers, university and academic libraries, schools, colleges, local history societies and other professional bodies.
RDW specialise in manufacturing small quantities of books, printed in singles or small batches on state-of-the-art digital printing presses on a wide range of specialist papers and boards.
We also provide commercial and trade printing and binding services for mainly local customers for brochures, stationery and advertising materials.
The RDWdigital Philosophy
The Company’s Directors, Charles Dunn and Jeremy Mills, between them boast over 50 years of experience in book publishing, printing and binding, and when it came to investing in equipment to produce bespoke on-demand books, they knew exactly what to buy;
“Any digital printing equipment must be capable of very high quality work, be quick, efficient and must be able to give publishers a payback almost immediately, without extreme effort or any business discontinuity due to effort on their part”, comments Jeremy Mills.
“Most importantly”, he adds, “the age of homogenous digital book printing, where the page sizes are all standard and the ink colours, print quality and paper stock choices severely limited are now truly over. We are seeing the start of a new era in on demand book printing and we aim to be one of the leading companies in this marketplace.
At RDW we now offer a serious alternative to traditional printing technologies for the discerning publisher who wishes to carefully target books at certain markets and produce limited and on-demand supplies”, he concludes.
